City Council Public Hearings
A public hearing is obligatory when due process is required, or when a specific statute or local regulation requires one.
The City may also hold a public hearing when it desires public input on a sensitive or controversial policy issue.

COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PUBLIC NOTICES AND HEARINGS
PUBLIC NOTICES
Public Notices are official government documents that are published to alert citizens and stakeholders of pending government actions and decisions. Public notices allow for anyone to become informed and involved in pending actions to which they have an interest in or may be affected by. State law and the Arlington Municipal Code also require that the public is notified when certain actions are taken by the City such as amendments and updates to the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Code Regulations (AMC Title 20), annexations, development projects, etc.
Communication Methods
Public notification is provided through a number of different means. The most common is through publication in the “legals” section of the local newspaper (The Everett Herald). Notice is also posted at City Hall, the Arlington Library, and the Smokey Point Post Office. If the action is associated with certain land-use permit applications, notice is also posted on the subject property and notice is mailed via USPS to property owners within 500 feet of the subject property. Notification is also sent to other governing jurisdictions and special districts as required. Depending on the specific notification requirements for the given action, notice is typically published 7 to 15 days before the date of scheduled action.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
Public Hearings before the Hearing Examiner will be held virtually via Zoom. Persons that do not have access to participate online may view and participate in the Hearing in person at the Community and Economic Development Department, located at 18204 59th Avenue NE, Arlington, WA 98223. Registration with Community and Economic Development is required to view in the city office by 5:00 pm the day prior to the Hearing.
If you intend to give oral testimony at the Public Hearing, please review the City's PUBLIC HEARING VIRTUAL/TELEPHONIC PROCESS
If you intend to provide written testimony or enter exhibits into the record at the Hearing, the exhibits must be delivered to 18204 59th Avenue NE, Arlington, WA 98223 or emailed to the City Planner arusko@arlingtonwa.gov by 5:00 pm the day prior to the Hearing.
