Project Updates

  • July 6 - Bid Opening
  • July 19 - Bid Awarded to Cadman Materials
  • August 30 - Construction started this morning with curb work at the north and south end of the project area.  This week construction will be from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, and will require lane shifts in the work areas only. All business entrances will be accessible during construction.  Please expect some delays to your travel times when traveling in these areas.
  • September 13 - This week work on the Smokey Point Blvd Pavement Preservation project will continue from Monday night to Thursday night during the overnight hours of 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Construction will include the completion of the pavement grinding, the installation of the signal loop detectors, and start of the 2-inch paving overlay. The contractor will install temporary striping in newly paved area until permanent striping can be installed. Please expect delays when traveling on Smokey Point Blvd during construction hours.
  • September 17 - Next week, Cadman Materials is scheduled to work from Monday to Wednesday night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.  Construction will include the installation of the 2-inch paving overlay, and temporary striping in the newly paved area until permanent striping can be installed. Once the paving is complete, the project will be suspended to allow for the needed cure time before the permanent striping can be installed. Please expect delays when traveling on Smokey Point Blvd during construction hours.
  • September 24 - On Monday night, the City’s contractor was able to complete the installation of the signal loop detectors and adjust the iron (manholes and valves).  Next week, Cadman Construction will be working Tuesday to Thursday night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.  Work will include the installation of the 2-inch overlay, and temporary striping along the freshly paved area until permanent striping can be installed. All work is weather dependent. Once the paving is complete, the project will be suspended to allow for the needed cure time before the permanent striping can be installed.  Please expect delays when traveling on Smokey Point Blvd during construction hours.
  • October 1 - This past week the City’s contractor, Cadman Construction was not able to pave due to the inclement weather during the week.   The application of pavement over a milled road surface requires the roadway to be dry and above a certain temperature in order for the new pavement to adhere to the milled road surface. Next week Cadman is scheduled to pave Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, of course this will be weather dependent.  Once the paving is complete, the project will be suspended for the appropriate cure time before the final striping will occur.
  • October 8 - On Thursday night, the contractor was able to complete the signal loop detector corrections that were needed before they could start the paving.  Next week the project is scheduled to continue during the night hours of 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM with the final paving.  The working days will depend on the weather, as the pavement needs to be dry in order to do the final paving. We thank you for your continued support and patience during this process.
  • October 15 - This week, Cadman Construction was able to pave the northbound lanes on Smokey Point Blvd from south city limits to 172nd St NE (SR 531) before the weather disrupted the progress.  Next week, Cadman is scheduled to finish the paving along Smokey Point Blvd during the night time hours of 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Temporary striping will be installed along the freshly paved area. This work is weather dependent. Once paving is complete, the project will be suspended to allow for the needed cure time before the permanent striping can be installed. Please expect delays when traveling on Smokey Point Blvd during the construction hours.
